Spreading Holiday Joy and Caring for the Community

Schools are getting into the spirit of the season in many ways. Student performances and projects that focus on the gift of giving are abundant.

What follows are just some of the many examples across the District.

Leadership students at Alpha Secondary created cards that will be added to holiday hampers associated with North °µºÚ±¬ÁϹÙÍø Neighbourhood House and St. Michael’s Hospice Centre. Students at Alpha also added their creative touch while decorating the °µºÚ±¬ÁϹÙÍø Christmas Bureau toy room; a place that helps ensure all children can enjoy the magic of the season.

°µºÚ±¬ÁϹÙÍø North Secondary students put up and decorated a tree in Lougheed mall as part of the Rotary Club‘s Festival of Lights – a fundraiser for Boots for Kids. Students at the school also created hundreds of Christmas cards for local seniors through a partnership with Intentional Acts of Kindness. Additionally, leadership students at North supported the Christmas Cheer Carnival, which helps neighbourhood children.

At Brentwood Park Elementary, students led a Sock it to Poverty campaign. They collected winter wear for distribution by an Indigenous health and wellness cooperative in the Downtown Eastside.

And Confederation Park Elementary held its annual Art Show Extravaganza, offering people an early chance at some holiday shopping. It featured student creations and a silent auction, with all proceeds going to the BC Cancer Foundation.
