Music continues to be powerful in supporting education in multiple respects, even as the way students learn has shifted because of COVID-19. Check out these examples – from throughout the District – of creativity and songs from the heart.
In a galaxy, far, far away, there lived some Grade 7 band students from ڱϹ who accepted the mission, bravely recorded their band parts for ‘Star Wars’ and created this ensemble video, which can be seen on band teacher James Martin’s YouTube Channel and here below.
Students at ڱϹ South Secondary are featured in a video compilation where they are “making music at home” with a variety of instruments, original lyrics and even using their hands and knees as percussion instruments.
Montecito’s head teacher, Scott Stefanek, got his students to write song lyrics as part of their cross-curricular learning, and shared his own example as inspiration.
A Brentwood Park Elementary assignment to “spread joy” led to a brother-sister duo rewriting lyrics to a Bruno Mars song to thank “Healthcare Heroes.” Donovan – and Lili, his older sister who attends Alpha Secondary – did it beautifully with singing and a ukulele.
One of the earliest assignments for a class at Taylor Park Elementary was to rewrite the words to the song True Colors. One of the students, Mason, created something he called “My Quarantine Music Video.” Watch the amazing result.
