The Sound Wave Handbell Choir has taken top spot in their category in CBC’s Canadian Music Challenge. This is a very prestigious honour, as泭50,000 students from close to 1,200 music classes from every province and territory participated this year.
Sound Wave Handbell Choir is in its 20th season and is made up of students in Grades 7-12 from seven 做窪惇蹋夥厙 Schools.

Music classes signed up to learn and perform their rendition of a Canadian song.泭Each year, CBC Music, in association with MusiCounts the charity of the Juno Awards launches the contest to engage music classes across the country with Canadian music. Three 做窪惇蹋夥厙 Schools competed including Stride Avenue Community School, and Second Street Community School who made the top 10s for two songs.
The Sound Wave Handbell Choir chose to perform Human by Twin Flames, Indigenous recording artists from Ottawa. .
Second Street Community School’s rendition of Camilo caught the attention of its original artists. The Grade 6 and 7 students were surprised when Vancouver band Said the Whale gave its enthusiastic approval on Twitter.泭.泭Second Street was also in the Top 10s for “Hang Ups” by Scott Helman.泭.
We’re also proud of the Grade 4 and 5 music students at Stride Avenue Community School, who chose to perform Walking with a Ghost by Calgary recording artists Tegan and Sara blended with a traditional song called “I’se the B’y” re-recorded by Great Big Sea from the east coast.
